EEG-Integrated Wheelchair Power Unit

An appropriate wheelchair will benefit the physical health and quality of life of its users. However, in cases of total paralysis, manual and automated wheelchairs are inadequate. Total paralysis can come from different causes; some are due to neurological disorders, spinal injuries, amputations, and accidents. For those suffering from disorders such as multiple sclerosis, ALS, and Cerebral palsy, there is currently no cure for these disorders. For those suffering from severe stroke, recovery is possible, but special care is needed. Still, all these heavily require assistance from others, thus the patient becomes dependent.

Publications

  • Publish a journal and conference paper for promoting the EEG-powered automated wheelchair

Products

  • The project will produce two (2) prototypes of an EEG-powered automated wheelchair

Patents

  • The project will apply for a patent for the generated EEG-powered automated wheelchair

People Services

  • This project will provide an avenue for the training of undergraduate, graduate students, and on-the-job trainees that will practice Biomedical Engineering especially in assistive devices

Places and Partnerships

  • Through the project, a partnership between the DLSU-IBEHT and DLSMHSI are made. Since the project will be tested with the patients in the future, this partnership will aid the project's participant recruitment.
